duck weather
How does a sketchy little duck change the way we experience the morning forecast?

This app is essentially just like your daily weather app that tells you the temperature outside! The core concept of the app is to transform the task of checking the weather into a personalized, illustrative experience. But unlike the default app that prioritizes data, this one introduces a special “weather duck" that wears different clothing based on the temperature outside. It is a visual indicator of the environment, dynamically updating its wardrobe to reflect real-time temperatures. Within this app, you can change your preference in seeing the weather (fahrenheit or celsius), and allow notifications. I use the weather app pretty daily to see how cold it is outside so this idea sparked one day when I decided I should add a little twist to it. I wanted to create something that was illustrative because I’m more comfortable with physically drawing out ideas. Most of my work was done on Procreate, where I had many layers of drafts and ideas. I also wanted to choose a font for the app that was more handwritten because of the illustrative aspect of the project. By personifying the weather through a duck, the app provides an intuitive sense of "what to wear" that a simple number cannot convey. Basically, the duck changes whenever the weather changes. I have drawn 5 ducks that have different outfits and different expressions based on the ranges of the weather. If you hover over the hourly temperatures, it shows the temp at the time at that time. One of the biggest takeaways from making this app was deciding how to integrate illustrative design into coding while keeping an app that is simple and not an overkill. Overall, it was really fun to create and makes me want to potentially work on it more in the future.
