A guided meditation app to destress

Feel the Music

This project is a guided meditation app called “Feel the music”, designed to help users slow down and reconnect with their breath through music. The idea came from how I view music as a form of relaxation when overwhelmed with life. I wanted to create something that others could use as a guided meditation to help take a moment away from their daily struggles. The app should feel calming, intuitive, and easy to return to. The main design question I explored was: how can visual design and sound work together to guide a meditation experience? To answer this, I focused on pairing each sound with a distinct visual. Users select a sound, rain, ocean, or ambient, choose a meditation length, and are guided through a box breathing exercise using a central focus: a raindrop, starfish, or circle. Instructions appear at the top, and users follow the motion of the shape as it expands and contracts to signal breathing. Each sound has its own visual background to strengthen the connection between hearing and seeing. Rain uses a raindrop and animated rain, ocean uses a starfish and animated waves, and ambient pairs a minimal white circle with a black background. I also included subtle effects, such as pulsing and glowing during breath holds, to reinforce the breathing pattern without overwhelming the user. One of my main takeaways was that small visual details, such as shape and motion, significantly impact how users interpret and follow an interaction.
